There is a saying for when someone is naturally gifted at something. People will often say that they take to their activity like a duck takes to water.
That’s to mean that they are so effortless in what they’re doing, that there didn’t seem to be that big of a learning curve and they sort of just stepped into it being naturally good.
We can only assume this saying comes from the fact that ducks never look like they have much to learn when swimming.
In fact, if you have ever seen little ducklings get in the water for the first time, it makes perfect sense that this would be the inspiration for the saying. The way that the little ducklings just ease through the water without a hitch is always so cute and inspiring.
But sometimes the trek to the water’s edge for the first time comes with a few leaps and bounds. One mama duck was taking her ducklings out for their very first swim and it wasn’t without a major challenge to overcome.
That challenge came in the form of a giant leap. Literally! The little ducklings had to follow mama down into the water from the edge of a bridge, and it was a little scary.
In the footage, you can see the mother duck leading her babies to the very edge of a wooden ledge that overlooks the pond below. The mother assesses the situation for a moment before she flies down to the water and starts to swim.
Her ducklings are left stunned for a moment. But little by little, they each find their courage and take the plunge down to join mom.
