The U.S. Navy Band Performs “Dueling Jingle Bells” For A Holiday Concert

There are certain musical hits that are always going to be fan favorites. Sometimes, we may hear them playing on the radio and we can’t help but tap our toes as we hear the music playing.

Then again, it isn’t always about the music but it is also about those who are playing it.

Perhaps that is why so many people have loved this video, which shows two members of the United States Navy band going back and forth in a rather unique competition that many people would call dueling banjos.

Many of us are familiar with the Dueling Banjos song, which was made popular by the movie, Deliverance. In more recent times, however, it continues to play on the radio and it really doesn’t matter where it came from, it’s just one of those tunes that we love to hear.

That is where senior Chief Petty Officer Keith Arneson (banjo) and Petty Officer 1st Class Joe Friedman (guitar) come in. They are standing on the stage and someone points out that they need to have a duel. As it turns out, they are all too happy to give the audience what they want.

When it starts, you might think that it is just a regular rendition of Dueling Banjos, but you really couldn’t be further from the truth. They put their own twist on it, which goes much further than plucking and playing in an amazing way.

Throughout the song, you will hear bits and pieces of other music, including some Christmas music and even the theme from Star Wars!

By the end, you are practically jumping from your seat. It’s just one of those videos that are well worth watching twice.
