Tiny Puppy in Ukraine Rescued in Overgrown Lot Looks Forward to the Good Life

As the war drags on in Ukraine, the people there and the animals caught up in the sh*t show it’s turned into continue to find a way to survive. When it comes to wildlife, they’re pretty much on their own. Not so for many of the domestic pets that have found themselves struggling to make it solo.

While people and charities from around the world have stepped forward to aid them, there are still groups within the country working every day toward alleviating the suffering these frightened and often injured or sick animals are facing. One of those groups is a small outfit that posts its progress on YouTube. They’re known as @lovefurryfriends.

Regularly keeping their followers apprised of the conditions of the animals they rescue and any adoptions, they are routinely contacted by the public when animals in need are spotted. Sadly, with all of the chaos surrounding them, their rehoming efforts are not always met with much luck, but that doesn’t keep them from trying. In the interim, at least the animals are safe.

Recently, they were contacted about a young puppy spied hanging out in what looked to be an overgrown lot. Without hesitating, they leapt into action and headed to where the animal was last seen. Their determination paid off when they spotted the hungry animal trying to eat cabbage and carrots that had been left for her by concerned citizens who meant well.

As puppy luck would have it, there was no need for coaxing or trapping the little squirt, as puppies have very little understanding of danger until they’ve experienced physical harm. After being scooped up and whisked to safety, Mousie, as the little girl was nicknamed, couldn’t give her rescuer enough kisses to show her gratitude.

As with all dogs picked up by @lovefurryfriends, Mousie had a visit at a veterinarian clinic to determine the state of her health. Although she seemed fine when they took her home to properly feed her and she instantly bonded with one of their other rescues, she started exhibiting signs of discomfort shortly afterward and needed to be taken in straight away.

As it turned out her tummy was a mess from eating improper foods, so she needed to stay at the clinic until she fully recovered. Fortunately, it wasn’t too long before she was able to be picked up and brought back to her rescuers’ home — just in time for a bath!

In addition to routine vet visits and baths, the rescue takes these grateful canines to a nearby pet supply store for collars, leashes, treats, and toys, among other necessities. Mousie put her big girl pants on and muscled through the bath, which was very likely the first she’d ever experienced.

Once bath time was over, Mousie was given her special wet food from the vet that she’d need to eat for the next few days until her upset tummy had subsided. She dug in with gusto, indicating that her appetite had not been diminished by the experience.

With Mousie on the mend, @lovefurryfriends had a fun photoshoot and took some great images of the sweet little puppy before posting them to social media. It wasn’t long before they were contacted by potential adopters voicing an interest in her. It was a 280-mile trip by train to meet them, but they made it happen in order to see her find a furever home.

Now, she has toys, love, and security — and a step-sibling to keep her company and show her the ropes. You can help support @lovefurryfriends and the work they do by visiting their YouTube channel here. Check out the video below.
