Three-Legged Shelter Dog Who Beat Cancer Finally Finds Loving Home

There is one day that all shelter pets look forward to – adoption day.

Some have to wait weeks, months, or even years to find their special someone. The wait for Humane Society of Broward County’s “biggest underdog” is over.

Tina has been through a lot. The 7-year-old dog arrived at the shelter over six months ago with an invasive form of cancer in one of her hind legs. Thanks to a medical foster and generous donors, the leg was amputated to save her life.

@humanebroward Oh sweet Tina Entering her golden years of life, Tina is a 7-year-old, cuddly couch potato at heart. If you’re inside, you can most likely find her happily relaxing on the couch, and she loves to cuddle if you sit with her! When playing in the yard she loves to chase her favorite ball, and is becoming more playful as she progresses on her fitness journey. She knows “sit” and is working on “down”. Bath time is no big deal for her, and she is eager to jump into the car for a ride so she’s pretty easy going! Tina is very social with people, and has a calm/gentle nature. She wags her tail and wants to greet every human she meets. Sadly, it was discovered Tina had an invasive form of cancer, but luckily she had surgery to amputate a leg and help prevent further spread. She recovered well with a medical foster family and now is ready to find her forever family. While in her foster home, she was with kids aged 7 and 11 and was great with them. She is often reactive to other dogs nearby during walks, so might need to be an only pet. Thanks to Justin, who has kindly paid her adoption fee. If you are not able to adopt, please share her post and consider donating to our shelter Your donations allow us to care for pups like Tina and help save the lives of hundreds of animals ❤ To meet Tina, please complete a pre-adoption application at www.humanebroward.com and then stop by. The Humane Society of Broward County is located at 2070 Griffin Road, Fort Lauderdale, FL and the adoption kennels open daily at 11 a.m. If you have questions call 954-989-3977 ext. 6. #rescuedog #shelterdog #adoptme #adoptdontshop #doglover #fortlauderdale #florida #dogreels #reels #seniordog #frostedfaces #berlin #dog #dogs #dogoftheday #dogsofinstagram #dogshelter #animalshelter #instadog #instadaily #pittie #cancer #pittiesofinstagram #bullybreed #staffylove #staffy #bluestaffy #staffygram #hippo #adoptasenior ♬ original sound – Humane Society Broward County

The sweet pup has made a full recovery and adjusted to life as a tripod dog. She loves to run and play with toys and enjoys cuddling on the couch. While she greets every human she meets with a wagging tail, she is selective on which dogs she likes.

The shelter was thrilled to announce that Tina has finally found a loving home. They wrote, “She was so happy! It was finally her turn!! Her new family understands her needs and her preferences and is okay with all of it! After spending the week with Tina at a kids’ summer camp, this sweet family just couldn’t resist bringing our precious girl home. Tina has an incredible story as a cancer survivor and she continues to move through life with love in her heart and a pep in her step.”

The entire shelter team gathered in the lobby to say goodbye to the happy pup. Tears of joy were shed by those present and viewers who watched as Tina’s tail never stopped wagging as she left the shelter.

There are so many pets like Tina waiting in shelter across the country. Please consider adopting a dog or cat from your local shelter. You will save lives and gain a new best friend. See all the adoptable pets at Humane Society of Broward County here.
