Subaru Helps Special Needs and Senior Dogs Find Homes With National Make a Dog’s Day

Subaru not only makes reliable vehicles, but they also give back to dogs. Their tagline is “More Than a Car Company”, and they are walking the walk.

They understand that dogs are part of the family and want to give back in a big way to the dogs that are overlooked. It is clear the car company loves dogs just as much as their customers. Their commercials often feature dogs (known as the Barkleys), which are always worth watching.

Subaru has taken their love for dogs one step further by helping senior and special needs dogs (they call “Underdogs”) find loving homes during the month of October, which is known as Subaru Loves Pets® month. For every dog adopted from a partner shelter Subaru and their retailers will donate $100.

But that’s not all…

They created a special holiday, National Make a Dog’s Day, which takes place on October 22nd. On this day, they encourage people to do something special for their dog and consider adopting an “underdog”.

@subaruofamerica Imagine waiting years to be adopted. That’s why we created National #MakeADogsDay on Oct. 22nd, to help Underdogs find loving homes. Please consider adopting an Underdog today. #SubaruLovesPets ♬ original sound – Subaru of America, Inc.

Subaru states, “You’re just what an Underdog is waiting for.”

Animal shelters nationwide are overcrowded with more homeless animals than adopters. The ones with gray muzzles or special needs are passed by, but they have so much love to give. Subaru hopes to help shed a light on these sweet pets and find them forever homes.

“Since 2008, Subaru and our retailers have donated over $51 million to national and local organizations and impacted the lives of over 420,000 animals,” shared Subaru on their website.

A commercial made by Subaru featuring some “underdogs” looking for a home will bring tears to your eyes. They provide more details about the featured dogs and why they are perfect just the way they are.

Lincoln is missing a front leg, but he gets around just fine. “He may be minus one leg but Lincoln’s pluses more than make up for it. Lincoln and other dogs with missing limbs still go crazy for walks, treats, and unlimited tummy rubs.”

Angus is the definition of a proper gentleman. “Angus is a wise old man, but he still enjoys patrolling his neighborhood and showing the squirrels who’s boss. Senior dogs like Angus may have left puppy hyperactivity behind, but that just allows their personality and intelligence to shine so they’re even easier to love.”

Subaru also included testimonials from their customers about why special needs and senior dogs are the best. A customer named Dan shared how he adopted a 3-legged hound named Ralston, and it was the best decision he ever made.

“A rescue posted a hound dog’s face on social media and at the bottom it said, ‘He doesn’t let his injury slow him down.’ I ended up getting in contact with the rescue who explained that he got hit by a car and his front left leg was amputated. I arranged a meeting and fell in love with him. I have had Ralston for three years now and he shows no signs of slowing down. We walk almost 4 miles every day. If you’re ever hesitant about a dog with a handicap, they adapt. He jumps higher, pulls harder, and runs faster than most dogs I’ve ever met.”
