The sweetest 1-year-old puppy in Ukraine was rescued from a park where it had been living for some time. A popular destination for dog owners and canine walkers, each day the desperate little girl would rush up to women walking their dogs and follow them with a hopeful look on her face. She obviously hoped someone would fall head over heels for her puppy-dog eyes and sweet smile and adopt her.
That day finally arrived just before Christmas when @lovefurryfriends rescue got involved. Frequently on the frontlines of animal welfare in the war-torn country, they receive tips on stray and injured animals and intervene whenever they can. The little stray with its beautiful black coat was only too happy to hop in a warm car and be whisked away to food, medical care, and a nice hot bath before bedding down for the night.
Ukraine Pet Crisis
The first thing @lovefurryfriends does when they scoop these animals up is to take them to a veterinary clinic for a checkup to determine their state of health. That’s when the little dog they named Liza was found to have issues with her liver. After beginning treatment and receiving a microchip for future identification purposes, Liza was taken to a pet supply store to pick up a few necessities, like a leash and collar, her very own food and water bowls, treats, and a brand-new jacket to keep her warm in winter.
For these poor strays, it’s like being handed a reprieve from the frightened and depressed lives they lead on the streets. Liza was taken home and likely introduced to the other rescues @lovefurryfriends has taken in since the war there started. Then it was bath time! That’s not always a favorite of dogs, but when you’ve been living on the streets and eating out of trashcans, things can get a bit dirty, not to mention the fleas and other parasites searching for a host.
Home Sweet Home
While it isn’t permanent, Liza can stay as long as she needs to with her rescuers. After her bath but before bedtime, she had the chance to get more pets and lovin’, play with her new toys, and try out some scrumptious treats before settling in for the evening in a clean, soft bed with blankets. Then, just in time for a Christmas miracle of her own, Liza was adopted by @lovefurryfriends’ very own videographer! Enjoying her new life, Liza is an energetic and playful pup who is going to be well cared for and loved. This is exactly the life she deserves.
Sadly, there are many more homeless animals in Ukraine and across the globe who have not had this kind of luck.
