Worker at a Retail Store Makes a Scammer Feel Like He’s the Most Stupid Person in the World

This is a situation where you would have wanted to see the look on the face of the “antagonist.” Almost something like the expression on Thanos’s face when he realized that Ironman had outsmarted him.

Thanos and the antagonist in this story have the same bloated egos. Both were so vain as to assume that they were more cunning than others — until their humiliating downfall.

Well, this story is not exactly as dramatic and cinematic, but you would surely cheer the “underdog” — the humble female protagonist. She wrote under the handle u/eightballwitch, “So I’ll start by saying I work for my dad at his store. I work the front counter and interact with most people/customers. Also, I look a lot more like my mom. My dad runs a separate business as well, but anybody who needs to talk to him for either business can usually find him in the office here.”

OP continued to share about how a disheveled-looking, haughty guy appeared at their store and was inquiring about her dad. She told him that her dad had just left, and this further annoyed the stranger. He started acting unprofessionally and was speaking rather loudly.

Then the guy looked around the store and picked a piece of equipment before returning to the counter. He told OP that he wanted to do a “trade” for some work he had done for her father.

But since OP was familiar with her dad’s workers and the guy was a total stranger to her, she refused. “I told him that I don’t do any negotiations while he’s not here, and I can’t just let him leave the store with something for free. I told him that normally he probably wouldn’t want to take that route, but he was welcome to discuss it with him once he’s back.”

That was when the guy said, with shameless audacity, “You’re making a big mistake here, and you must not know _____ very well, because he would do this for me and blah blah blah.”

And so, OP looked back at the guy straight and answered, “I actually do know him quite well, seeing as he is my father.”

Well, the man was speechless. OP could see from his expression just how stupid he felt. OP had told him that he could either leave or wait for her father to return. He ended up waiting in his truck.

At last, OP’s dad returned, and the guy’s real intention was exposed. He was not intending to “trade,” but rather to scam OP, whom he thought was just a mere retail worker. The guy did work for her dad, but only for two days since he was quick to quit. The equipment that he wanted to take cost a lot more than what should be his compensation for two days of labor. He was not able to collect earlier because OP’s dad had been paying his workers bi-weekly.

OP’s last words? “I swear some of the people around here are nuts. But a petty ‘don’t you know who I am?’ moment made my day.”
