Handsome Boy Not Cut Out for Shelter Life Struggles with Hectic, Overcrowded Environment
Stress studies undertaken in the last few years confirm that rescue and shelter environments cause stress in animals. Some of them are so freaked out by everything going on around them that they fail to thrive and start losing their hair. Some are withdrawn and hide where no one can see them. They are, in essence, falling apart and need to get into foster programs or forever homes stat!
Meet Kogi
Kogi is a neutered sable-and-white American Pit Bull Terrier and Chinese Shar-pei mix believed to be under 3 years old. He weighs approximately 77 pounds, and he’s been at a Tucson shelter since March 28, 2022, leaving him sooooo ready to go home today! Kogi requires an immediate foster or forever home so he can start feeling better.
He is a handsome boy who is simply not cut out for shelter life. He struggles with the hectic, overcrowded environment and all the stress that comes along with it. Sadly, this has been his home for far too long now, and he really needs to find a new living arrangement. In the meantime, Kogi has a huge volunteer fan following at Pima Animal Care Center. “Kogi is a smart boy who has received some training. He knows sit, down, shake, watch, and leave it. He enjoys playing with toys and running around. He is very puppy-like. He’s a sweet boy that clearly wants to please, and with continued work on his manners and confidence, he will make a great companion.”
“I find Kogi utterly endearing. He’s a bit of a ham for treats, and should there be a picnic table in sight, he’ll hop up and promptly lay down with the most pathetic puppy eyes until given a treat, which he takes with a gentle mouth. He enjoys affection and will sneak attack to cover you in slobbery kisses!”
“Kogi is one of my favorite dogs. He would make a great agility dog, jumping up on each of the picnic tables as we go by them. He is very treat-motivated and has a solid sit and a gentle mouth. He is comfortable with touch and enjoys affection. He will make a loyal companion for an active partner.”
“Mornings with Kogi… he’s a wonderful walking companion, always checking in. Once we hit the grass, I love watching him roll around. Pure joy (for both parties). I’m hopeful he will find a wonderful loving family. I absolutely adore this handsome guy!”
Foster vs Forever
When meeting other dogs in playgroup, Kogi has been energetic, social, and playful. He’d like to meet any resident dogs before heading home to ensure it’s a good fit. Ask about how you can help this long-stay pup find his forever home or even a foster situation.
