Adoptable Chinese Shar Pei, Nala, is Always Happy to See Her People

The Shar Pei is an ancient dog dating back more than 2,000 years to China’s Han Dynasty. They are known for being steadfastly loyal to family. While the breed is well-known in the West for its deep wrinkles, a traditional, less wrinkled form of the animal is said to be maintained in Hong Kong. But none of that matters to Nala, as looks mean nothing to her. What is important is that she meets someone who wants to include her as a cherished family member for the rest of her life.

Adoptable Rescue Dogs

Nala is a spayed female that’s thought to be a Shar Pei (mix?) weighing approximately 62 pounds and about 6-7 years old. She’s listed at the Pima Animal Care Center shelter in Tucson and has been in need of adoption since March 27, 2021. In other words, she is sooooo ready to go home! Here’s what is known about her to date from her advocate:

As far as house training, she’s got it handled and stood at the back door but did not scratch until allowed out. She has experience with children and is described as affectionate but not overly affectionate. “She follows me from room to room and likes to know what I am doing. She will lay on me and some nights cuddle me on the bed.”

Shelter Pets

She adores rubber toys the most but will try to eat them! She also likes ropes and tears them apart but does not try to eat those, thankfully. “If she gets a good walk and has some play time, she will pretty much chill and is ok hanging on the couch. She seems a bit bored in a house with only one person, though, and I think would appreciate watching over more humans.”

Always up for something fun, she’s a strong but loving pup. Translation: she tries to be affectionate but can end up bulldozing the source of her undying adoration. Because of this, a stronger person who won’t be easily knocked over would probably be best for her. She is always happy to see you, regardless.

Animal Adoption

Sometimes Nala can be a big goofball. One example is how she enjoys rolling around on her back on carpeting and then looking up at you with the biggest ear-to-ear grin. Ultimately, a house with more people in it that are active and perhaps have a (sturdy) kid would be her ideal forever environment.

If you are interested in adopting Nala, please reach out to her advocate, Darcy, at darcylin14@yahoo.com or email pacc.adopt@pima.gov for more information. Nala is a member of Finn’s Fund for Good Dogs. She is in kennel D001, and her ID# is A736571. Check out her videos below!
