Pee-Wee Herman Actor Paul Reubens Dies At 70

The actor behind Pee-Wee Herman has passed away at the age of 70.

Pee-Wee Herman was a childhood classic for many kids in the late ’70s and ’80s. Even those who grew up in the 1990s might remember the iconic and humorous character depicted by actor Paul Reubens.

According to NPR, 70-year-old Reuben passed away on Sunday July 30, 2023, after battling cancer.

Reuben was well-known for his work, including “Pee-wee’s Big Adventure” (1985), along with the hit children’s show “Pee-wee’s Playhouse” (1986-1990).

A representative for Reuben shared the news of his passing on the actor’s Instagram page. They wrote: “Last night we said farewell to Paul Reubens, an iconic American actor, comedian, writer and producer whose beloved character Pee-wee Herman delighted generations of children and adults with his positivity, whimsy and belief in the importance of kindness. Paul bravely and privately fought cancer for years with his trademark tenacity and wit. A gifted and prolific talent, he will forever live in the comedy pantheon and in our hearts as a treasured friend and man of remarkable character and generosity of spirit.”

Along with the tribute was a personal apology from Reuben for not revealing his cancer diagnosis to the public. Reuben wrote prior to his death, “Please accept my apology for not going public with what I’ve been facing the last six years. I have always felt a huge amount of love and respect for my friends, fans and supporters. I have loved you all so much and enjoyed making art for you.”
