Curious Orca Swims Up To Unsuspecting Kneeboarder In The Ocean

Orcas are such majestic creatures.

Their black and white speckled bodies almost make them look like cows of the sea. But, they also have the nickname of “killer whale,” so they’re definitely animals that are not to be messed with.

While they haven’t been known to attack humans, to be totally honest, I don’t think I’d ever want to meet one while swimming in the ocean. I mean, just their sheer size alone is pretty intimidating. I can’t imagine that seeing a wild orca while in the water would be very calming.

Based on one video that is circulating social media, neither did the kneeboarder who was greeted by a wild orca.

There are loads of water sports that people like to participate in. However, it is important to remember that when we enter the ocean, we’re entering a whole other world where we aren’t exactly on top of the food chain. One kneeboarder, who was waiting on his tow rope to be tossed to him, definitely got an up close and personal encounter with a curious orca.

The large whale took notice of the lone kneeboarder and immediately swam over for a closer look. Based on the guy’s reactions, we can only imagine he wasn’t too thrilled to be joined by the giant marine mammal.

The entire incident was filmed out in Tindalls Bay and Big Manly Bay on the Whangaparaoa Peninsula in Auckland, New Zealand.

Later, the video was uploaded to Instagram, where it received more than 900,000 likes, as well as plenty of comments. One comment even joked, “I’m not so sure about being pulled like a fishing lure right in front of an orca.”

To be honest? Neither would I. But at least the kneeboarder got one heck of a story to tell people in future!
