Seattle Mariners Save Dog From Euthanasia, Adopt Him As Their New Clubhouse Dog

A Labrador Retriever mix who was at risk for euthanasia now has a job in Major League Baseball.

The Seattle Mariners rescued the four-year-old pup named Tucker from Okandogs, a shelter in Cashmere, Washington. Not only did they save his life, but they also decided to give him the best job.

Tucker is now the team’s first-ever “clubhouse dog,” and will provide snuggles and love to his new teammates and fans.

Tucker is having the time of his life, catching balls and running around the baseball field.

The Mariners are reminding their fans that there is a large population of shelter animals who need forever homes, and hope their story will encourage people to adopt.

“We’re just trying to bring awareness to rescues all over the state of Washington and there’s dogs out there for everybody, and we hit a home run with this one,” Scott Servais, the Mariners General Manager, said. “This little guy’s great, our players are excited about it. It’s a nice little distraction for them in the clubhouse.”

Tom Short, the president of Okandogs, is thrilled to see Tucker enjoying his new home with the baseball team.

He also urges people to step up to the plate and adopt dogs like Tucker from shelters, as most of them are overrun.

It’s no secret that the Mariners are a dog-loving baseball team. Throughout the season, they host a handful of “Bark In The Park” nights, where fans are able to bring their beloved pooches to the baseball game with them. During these nights, the team partners with local rescue shelters/
