Three sisters who own Lime Ricki, a swimwear brand based in Salt Lake City, Utah, have recently released a new bathing suit line that was created to help women feel comfortable and confident with who they are.
The line, called “Flourish and Bloom,” is “mastectomy-friendly” and is geared toward women who have undergone traumatic surgeries as a result of breast cancer treatment.
The bathing suits have different styles that include removable bra cups for prosthetics and varying coverage of the chest area for those who would like to cover scars from surgery or skin defects from radiation.
Lime Ricki was founded in 2007 by sisters Colette Callister, 55, Jennifer Anderson, 53, and Nicole Bruderer, 50.
This line and its mission is something that the sisters hold near and dear to their heart and is very personal for them since Bruderer and Anderson have both survived cancer.
“[Cancer] has affected our family for generations and so it’s really near and dear and close to our heart, the journey of cancer, mastectomies, finding clothes that fit with when your body changes unexpectedly,” Callister told GMA. “And so we feel privileged that we have an opportunity to help this community of very brave, vulnerable and courageous women.”
Bruderer was diagnosed with breast cancer when she was just 21 years old and fought it twice more at 26 and 29.
20 years later, Bruderer is healthy and strong, but she will never forget everything her cancer put her though, which is why she cares so deeply about funding in research.
Almost two decades after her sister’s diagnosis, Anderson was diagnosed with ovarian cancer. Her sister’s battle with her cancer is what gave her the strength and hope to fight her own.
Although Anderson didn’t have breast cancer, ovarian cancer significantly increases the risk of breast cancer, so she opted for a prophylactic bilateral mastectomy.
“The suits do relate quite a bit to what my body has gone through and issues that I face,” Anderson told GMA. “And then I have a 16 year old daughter…This journey may continue with her as well.”
For each bathing suit purchased from this line, Lime Ricki will donate a portion of proceeds to support the Breast Cancer Research Foundation.
