Grandma Who Waved From Her Window For Decades Is Honored By Community

When moving to a new home, one could only hope that their neighbors will be friendly.

June Wenrich is that neighbor who everyone would want to live by.

She became known by many different names including “Gram,” “Betty,” and of course “Gram in the window,” but what she is most known for is her waving.

She is such a ray of sunshine and has been waving to people from the window of her Berks County, Pennsylvania home for decades.

The 92-year-old has lived in the same house for more than 60 years, and never hesitated to wave to anyone who passed by.

Over the years, Wenrich went through some rough times. Ten years ago, she suffered a stroke, which took away her ability to speak. She also sadly lost her husband, Louis, last December.

But despite everything she has been through, she never stopped waving and her community never stopped waving back.

Since Wenrich is getting older, her family thought it would be best if she moved in with them.

When she wasn’t at her window waving, the people of her community began to worry about her and wonder where she was. They took to social media to find out, and finally received answers from her family that she was doing well but living with family now.

Now that Wenrich moved to a new home, residents of her community realize just how much her daily waves meant to them, and they made sure to express that to Wenrich’s family.

That’s when her family decided to organize one last wave before she permanently moves into her new home, to give her community another change to see her and say goodbye.

Family, friends, neighbors and members of the community stopped by Wenrich’s home this week for one last wave from her, and enjoyed sharing stories about her from over the years.

Wenrich will continue waving, but from now on it will be from her new window.

Her granddaughter says Wenrich loves receiving letters from the community. If you’re interesting in writing to her, you can mail to: June Wenrich, 621 William Penn Blvd., Womelsdorf, PA 19567.
