Missouri Shelter Pets Experience Toys And A Soft Place To Rest For First Time, Thanks To You
Animal shelters are in crisis mode with an influx in pets and decrease in adopters. Dogs and cats are spending more time in shelters waiting for a forever home.
They are using every dollar to feed and care for the animals and don’t have any to spare for things like toys and treats.
That’s where Greater Good Charities’ GOODS program comes in to help with donated pet food, treats, toys, and much more.
Thanks to your generous donations, shelter pets at Kansas City Pet Project are getting some much needed and deserved treats and toys.
The GOODS grant and donations provided the homeless pets with toys to stimulate their minds and treats for being good boys and girls.
The shelter told us, “Our feline program has strongly benefited from the toys and blankets, providing enrichment to our cats and a cozy place to rest. The dog treats have enhanced our canine enrichment program, allowing for more training and behavior modification with treats to reward the dogs for positive training sessions and behaviors.”
Overlooked cats, like FeLV-positive Willow, are curling up on the soft blankets for naps after playing with their new toys.
“Willow has LOVED every toy we have given her, as you can see in the photo, and enjoys laying on her cozy purple blanket as well. Enrichment such as these toys and blankets is what allows us to house as many cats as we see coming into the shelter every day. The overwhelming amount of cats that need help in our community only continues to grow and with the granted supplies, we are able to continue to assist them and their needs,” states Paige Cooper, Fundraising and Engagement Associate at KC Pet Project.
Nervous dogs like Bear find comfort in toys and learn to trust new people with tasty treats.
Cooper shared, “We have over 300 dogs in our care at this time, and treats are not easy to afford for so many dogs. With this grant, we are able to give dogs like Bear rewards not only for positive behaviors, but also we can help encourage small steps of progress in their personality and trust of humans. Bear loves the Snowball treats from this grant, and has already started to show improvement in his trust of us and our staff.”
All the shelter pets send kisses and thanks. The staff also sends their gratitude and said, “Many of these animals are experiencing a soft place to rest, a toy to chase, and treats to munch on for the first time in their lives, thanks to this grant.”
