Abandoned Dog Finds Her Forever Home After Being Dumped In Louisiana

Glory was only six months old when she was abandoned under a highway bridge in a desolate part of Louisiana. Fortunately, the young hound mix–who was cruelly dumped with her sister–found a man heading to camp and followed his truck, hoping he would stop and save them.

“It took no time at all for him to figure out these two siblings had been dumped in the middle of the swamp with little land to run on,” shelter workers told Greater Good Charities. When the man opened the door to see if either dog had a collar, the hungry, abandoned pups hopped right in.

“They were thirsty, hungry, and a tad bit scared, but food quickly overpowered their fear,” said shelter workers, who brought the dogs back to the shelter after the camper called them for help.

At the shelter, Glory was booked on Flights to Freedom, which fly at-risk shelter dogs from the South–where shelter overcrowding and heartworm infection leaves animals at risk–to safety in shelters where they can get adopted. Without Flights to Freedom, many of these shelter pets would be at risk for euthanasia.

On July 12, Glory joined 50 other at-risk dogs flying to safety in Wisconsin, where the loving dog was transferred to The Washington County Humane Society. There Glory–who was once cruelly abandoned and left for dead–was adopted by a family determined to give Glory the safe, loving home she deserves!

Of course, Flights to Freedom – which are operated by Greater Good Charities’ Good Flights program with support from The Animal Rescue Site–are funded through reader donations, which means you played a critical role in Glory’s adoption story! Thanks for helping us fly this dog to her forever home!

Please make a donation to help support our next Flight to Freedom. Just $5 helps us fund 125 air miles for a shelter pet flier, and larger donations help us save even more animals’ lives. Donations for our August Flights to Freedom–which will fly 200 shelter pets to safety on life-saving flights timed to coincide with the annual Clear The Shelters pet adoption and donation campaign– will also be matched by Hill’s Pet Nutrition, up to $30,000. Find out more about Clear the Shelters here.
