Firefighters Pull Over To Help 95-Year-Old Mow His Lawn

Growing old can pose a lot of challenges for those living in the United States. Without a strong support system of friends and family, managing everyday tasks like housework can be daunting.

One 95-year-old man living in Austin, Texas knows this all too well. When we think of people nearing 100, we like to imagine they’re relaxing and well cared for, but some are having to do things like yard work still!

In fact, one Texas woman happened to film a 95-year-old that was struggling to mow his lawn. The woman, @epialla, shared a video of the moment on Twitter, but rather than watching him struggle alone, she was delighted to see members of the Austin Fire Department stepping up to help.

One of the firefighters took the lawnmower from the elderly homeowner and began mowing the lawn while others chatted with the man and watched the lawn mowing take place.

After being shared, it wasn’t long before the Austin Fire Department saw what had been filmed.

They reshared the video, saying:

“Our E6/C-shift crew passed this house yesterday and saw the 95YO resident struggling to mow his lawn. They stopped the unit to give him a hand; FF Rivas made quick work of the hilly front yard. Kudos to them for serving those in need, no matter what that need may be!”

Many people applauded the firefighters’ great service, with one person writing: “Beautiful! Just think. They could’ve just waited until they were called to his place over a cardiac arrest or a life threatening injury. Instead, a lawn got mowed, an old guy had company, a FD guy got some great exercise, & another had a great conversation with a 95 yr old man.”
