Shiba Inu Who Inspired “Doge Meme” Faces Serious Illness

If you’ve spent any time on the Internet over the past few years, you’re probably familiar with the popular Doge meme that’s been circulating around.

The iconic meme features a Shiba Inu, Kabosu, making a funny face at the camera:

That Shiba Inu behind the iconic meme is now 17-years-old and her health is failing.

Kabosu’s owner, Atsuko Sato, shared about Kabosu’s health on his Instagram account where he has over 420,000 followers.

Sato shared that on Instagram that the dog is suffering from both cancer and liver disease (chronic lymphoma leukaemia and acute cholangiohepatitis).

Sato said that her sweet pup is taking antibiotics and they’re praying for a miracle.

He still has a bit of an appetite and is able to eat and drink little bits.

Sato shared in a late post that she was even able to get Kabosu out for a 5-minute walk. That’s a huge achievement and shows the sweet pup is still hanging on to life.

Kabosu celebrated her 17th birthday party back in October, exceeding the average lifespan of the breed by a good couple of years.

While we can hope and pray that her health takes a turn for the better, it’s safe to say that Kabosu has lived quite a rich life and inspired millions of people around the world with her quirky faces that inspired the meme.
