Sometimes, our pets can be too clever for their own good. They can quickly figure out different problems, finding solutions in order to get what they want. Sometimes, that works against us as humans in terms of we end up spending extra time and money cleaning up their messes.
So, growing up, my dog wasn’t the brightest bulb in the tanning bed. But our cat was pretty clever. He learned how to open up the front door. He also had it out for our dog, so this resulted in him releasing the dog a few times – almost as if he was trying to get rid of her – and it ended in my dad having to purchase a brand new, more secure front door that he couldn’t open.
But not all smart animals are villainous masterminds like my cat. Some pets, like a Saint Bernard named Everest, put their smarts to good use in order to spend more time with their friend. And that is exactly what Everest did.
His owner, Elizabeth Potter, noticed one day while she was getting ready to go to work, that her dog kept scratching at the fence and putting his close to it.
Confused, she looked on, and then her questions were answered the moment that the next-door neighbor’s dog, a 2-year-old English Mastiff named Bear, poked his head through a hole in the fence.
As it turns out, Everest had been hard at work making a doggie door in order for his friend to be able to say hi and vice versa.
The hole in the fence made it quite obvious to Elizabeth and her neighbor that their pooches were best buds and were in need of a playdate. And so, the rest is history as these pups now get to go on playdates together!
