Dad With Dementia Forgets He Has A Daughter But Remembers To Love Her Anyway
Watching your parents grow old can be difficult, especially if they develop health issues or experience memory loss.
One woman named Bailey is taking to social media to share her life as a caregiver for both of her parents and she’s made quite an impression on her audience.
You see, Bailey’s dad, Scott, suffers from dementia and Wernicke’s Encephalopathy, a degenerative brain disorder that, even with treatment, can result in “slow and incomplete memory function.” Her mom has diabetes.
While Bailey’s dad may not remember who she is, he still remembers how much she means to him and there’s something beautiful about that.
In a now-viral video shared on TikTok, Bailey has a conversation with her dad, in which he expresses that he doesn’t think he’s really her dad.
In the video, Scott tells Bailey, “I have feelings for you. There are feelings—I know this girl, this lady—she is important to me in my life. So you mean something to me.”
While it’s heartbreaking to have a parent forget who you are, Bailey was just happy that her dad still cared for her and remembered she had some significant role in his life.

Bailey is hoping to bring awareness to the conditions her parents suffer from. She wrote on Instagram, “I hope to help as many people as I can thru TikTok and I want to change the stigma behind dementia and bring more awareness to my dad’s disease of Wernicke’s Encephalopathy, which is a degenerative brain disorder. I also want to bring awareness to diabetes, which is a disease my mom has and along with her TBI , she too needs full time caregiving. I want to end the stigma on diabetes and change peoples thought process and assumptions when it comes to this terrible disease.”
Being a caregiver to your parents is certainly challenging, but Bailey works hard to bring light and positivity to the situation.
She often shares upbeat and humorous conversations she has with her dad, along with sharing snippets of their life together.
