A Day in the Life of Dog Rescuers: Can’t Stop Until We’ve Saved All Those Mangy Puppies

What is a mangy dog?

It’s a dog that’s afflicted by mange, which, according to VCA Animal Hospitals is “a parasitic skin disease caused by microscopic mites. Two different mange mites cause this skin disease in dogs. One lives just under the surface of the skin (sarcoptic mange), while the other resides in the hair follicles (demodectic mange). Although both mites share similar characteristics, there are also important differences. It is important not to confuse the two types of mange because they have different causes, treatments, and prognoses.”

Demodectic mange, also known as red mange or Demodex, is the most common form of mange in dogs. It is caused by a parasitic mite, Demodex canis or Demodex injal, that lives in a dog’s hair follicles. These mites can’t cause any harm as long as a dog’s immune system is strong. Also, it’s not a contagious skin disease, but mothers can pass the mites on to their puppies.

Those vulnerable to Demodectic mange are dogs with weakened immune systems due to old age, illness, malnutrition, or certain types of medication.

Both types of mange can be treated. There are topical and oral medications, special cleansing shampoos, and other treatments. It’s always best to consult a veterinarian if you notice any skin infection or abnormalities in your dog.

Meanwhile, this video of four mangy puppies will touch your heart! A couple didn’t give up until all brothers and sisters were reunited.

Brady and Alex received a report about these poor puppies, to which they immediately responded. They found two of them and set out to save the skinny puppies whom they observed were afflicted both by hunger and mange. They fed the young dogs and took them to a safe place where they could receive the care that they needed.

But Brady and Alex refused to take a full rest yet after the rescue. They knew there were four puppies, but they were able to save only two. They felt the urgent need to go back and rescue the other puppies.

Luckily, they chanced upon them! The couple quickly moved in to catch the two and treated them the same way as the puppies they had rescued earlier. What made the effort even more worthwhile was they have reunited the four brother-and-sister puppies!

Watch this touching rescue of these four mangy puppies by tireless dog lovers!
