Sadly, Charlotte Joy’s 8th birthday party was close to being a lonely one after only one classmate of hers had RSVP’d.
But a day before her birthday, her older sister, Chloe Sexton, posted an emotional plea on TikTok that tugged the heartstrings of people near and far.
“If a kid in your child’s class gives out birthday invitations, just come. It’s like an hour or two of your life,” she said. “Her birthday party is going to be this weekend, and our mom died of brain cancer 83 days ago.”
“One. One child from her class RSVP’d,” she said, choking back tears. “I haven’t even told her that. Like, why? Why? Her whole class knew what happened.”
Her TikTok went viral with more than 9.2 million views.
After her viral plea, Chloe began receiving tons of messages on Instagrams from moms asking where she lived to see if they lived close enough to attend Charlotte’s party.
In a matter of days, a whole group of local women offered to help decorate the house, clean it, and put together balloon garlands.
Charlotte ended up having an amazing surprise party with nearly 25 people there to celebrate her.
Not only was Charlotte surprised with decorations, gifts, and a horse to pet, but she also made so many new friends that day.
She referred to her party as “the best day!”
Unfortunately, Charlotte had never had a party like this before because while her mom was sick with cancer, she wasn’t able to have a lot of people at their house. So not only was this Charlotte’s first birthday party without her mom, but it was her first birthday party ever.
It’s safe to say that it was a huge success and a day Charlotte will never forget.
