Sisters Lost In The Woods Survived With Their Loyal Dog Fiercely Protecting Them For Hours

We have yet another proof that dogs are the most loyal pet anyone could ask for.

There’s really not much a parent can do to control brave and adventurous children from wandering off on their own without being constrictive. You can’t really lock up a child in the confines of your home forever, no?

One family faced a terrifying ordeal when two young girls went missing in the woods behind their home in Folsom, Louisiana.

4-year-old Cecile and her sister, 7-year-old Abigail, were playing in their yard when they decided to explore the woods near their home. One thing they decided to take with them was their family dog (actually, coerce might be a better word for this), Artemis.

Their playtime in the woods turned into a disaster when the trio inevitably got lost.

When their mother, Mary Bourg, noticed their disappearance, she started searching for them on her own.

“I just start, like, running around the whole property – I mean, six acres, and that’s when I called him [my husband] and said, ‘They’re gone,'” the mother said. “I had the worst thoughts. I just didn’t let those thoughts stick around very long because I couldn’t handle that.”

In a long Facebook post, Mary said that shortly after the police arrived at their house, she posted in their local town group to ask for help and keep alert. Volunteers came forward and offered to help the family search for their daughters.

One of those volunteers was Rooster Cowart, one of the first people to reach out to help, and he was the person who found the little girls in the woods.

“Rooster entered the woods from a different highway and started following a creek until he thought he heard the girls. He was then chased out by a wild hog (thank Jesus Artemis was protecting our girls from those dangerous things 😣). He also was suspicious of the hog being “so nervous” and assumed our dog and girls must have been close by. He went back to his truck to get his gun and find others to help,” she wrote.

The people who retrieved the girls said that Artemis was immensely protective of the girls.

“The dog about ate me up because I rushed up through there, and he was not going to let me near them. He was circling them,” one of the volunteers said. Artemis was said to have been growling at anyone who came close to the girls.

In an unexpected statement made by the older daughter, it turns out that the reason they got lost was actually because of Artemis.

“He kept running ahead of us. We were trying to follow him, but we couldn’t keep up,” said little Abigail.

Even though Artemis got them lost in the first place, it doesn’t erase the fact that the loyal Golden Retriever protected his humans and ensured their safety while they were lost in the woods.
