7th Grader Stops School Bus Full Of Kids After Driver Passes Out Mid-Route

A 7th-grade boy in Michigan is being hailed as a hero after stopping a school bus from veering into oncoming traffic after the driver became unconscious.

The boy, later identified as Dylan Reeves of Lois E. Carter Middle School, kept his composure and handled the situation like a true first responder might have.

In a press conference shared on Facebook by the Warren Consolidated Schools in Michigan, Superintendent Dr. Robert D. Livernois said of the student’s decision: “I could not be prouder of his efforts. He had the wherewithal to push it [the brake] slowly, likely in anticipation that the bus was full of passengers…The Warren Police and Fire Departments responded very quickly, tended to the driver, and the students were safely loaded onto a different bus to make their way home.”

Dr. Livernois went on to explain that the driver had actually alerted the school that she wasn’t feeling well and needed to pull over. Before she could pull over or stop the bus, the driver passed out. The bus started to veer into oncoming traffic and that’s when Dylan sprung into action.

Despite being some 5 rows back, Dylan noticed something was wrong and he ran to the bus driver and saw she was passed out. He took the wheel and carefully put on the brake to stop the bus in the middle of the road. After stopping the bus, he yelled for someone to call 911!

The press conference continued, saying that two Good Samaritans ran to the bus to assess the situation and helped the 60+ students exit safely. The driver was taken to a hospital where she was treated and assessed for undisclosed health issues.

It’s thanks to Dylan’s heroic efforts and quick action that the bus safely stopped and didn’t continue to veer into traffic. What a hero!
